Keynote Presentation and NFL Panel

Dr. Gregory W. Stewart is a nationally recognized expert in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in adults. He also specializes in disability prevention, rehabilitative medicine, sports medicine, and has a particular interest in sports concussion. Dr. Stewart is the Director of the Sports Concussion Management Program, he is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the Tulane School of Medicine, and he is the team physician for the Tulane Department of Athletics. He has served as team physician for professional, collegiate and high school teams for more than 30 years.

In addition to co-directing the Center for Sport, Dr. Stewart currently spends most of his time working with former professional athletes. As Medical Director of the Professional Athlete Care Team at Tulane University, he leads the NFL Benefits Neurological Care Program, NFL Player Care Foundation Healthy Body and Mind Screening Program, and the Trust (powered by the NFLPA) Brain and Body and Milestone Wellness Assessment programs.

In the evolving landscape of sports medicine, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) stands as a pivotal advancement, revolutionizing health information management. This presentation explores the transformative impact of AI technologies on the management, analysis, and application of health data within sports medicine. Al’s capabilities in predictive analytics, personalized treatment plans, and injury prevention are scrutinized, highlighting how machine learning algorithms can process vast datasets to identify patterns and trends that are imperceptible to human analysis. Specifically, machine learning algorithms can analyze biomechanical data to predict an athlete’s risk of injury, enabling preventative interventions.
AI-driven diagnostic tools, such as image recognition software, can swiftly and accurately identify musculoskeletal issues from MRI scans, outperforming traditional methods in speed and accuracy.

This presentation will provide insights into the current state of AI applications in sports medicine, future trends, and the necessary steps to integrate these technologies while ensuring data security and patient confidentiality. This exploration underscores Al’s potential to elevate the standards of health information management, ultimately fostering a new era of precision and efficiency in sports medicine.
